There is no sign of rain and the drought is worsening every day, our farmers need and Nambucca Heads RSL is helping them with our community behind us.
An incredible amount of food, water, groceries, clothes, pet food, stock feed, and personal items have been dropped into our foyer and we thank the community for being so compassionate in this time of need. When we work together as a community, great things can be achieved.
Our journey to Tamworth to hand out our ‘Doing it for our Farmers Drive’ donations was a life-changing experience, the warmth and joy we received from locals needing a helping hand.
We travelled 360klms visiting Somerton, Gunnedah, Bogabri, Baan Baa, Narrabri, Manila, Attunga and back to Tamworth. We saw the real meaning of what a Green Drought actually was, we saw paddocks with green grass and thought wow the animals have feed now, only to learn that this is classed as unsubstantial growth and holds no substantial nutrients in it.
The true reality came when we saw the dams bone dry, cows standing at the bottom of the dam searching for water, we heard how one farmer lost over a dozen of his sheep as they became stuck in the sludge at the bottom of the dam.
Our journey has only reinforced to us that this drought isn’t over by a long shot, our farmers are going to need our love and support well into the future.
Again, we thank all the community who have helped us help others.
